20th Global Summit by WTTC
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) in partnership with the Government of Quintana Roo hosted the 20th Global Summit in Cancun, Mexico last 25-27 April.
The Global Summit is the most important travel and tourism event, this year was organized with a hybrid format. With all the health and safety protocols in place and antigen testing for the attendees at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, over six hundred participants onsite and thirty thousands of people around the world engaged virtually.
It was accessible to be part of this summit trough the social platforms and impressive high quality live streaming. Great program with rich content in multilingual options. Trusted hospitality experts shared their knowledge and expertise.
According to the latest Economic Impact Reports by WTTC, in 2020 the global travel and tourism sector suffered a loss of almost $4.5 trillion and 62 million jobs were lost. The message was clear “Uniting the World for Recover” and this could not be possible if the public and private sector collaborate and work together.
One of the big highlights of the event was the launching of the Cancun Women’s Initiative Declaration Supporting Women in Travel and Tourism. Which recognize the contribution of women around the world and gender equality in the industry. Women account for 54% of people employed in Travel and Tourism.
Consequentially, last year during MICECOnline 2020, WTTC reaffirmed its commitment with the MICE sector in the country and shared the great news regarding the Global Summit 2021 will be hosted in Manila, The Philippines.
WTTC formally announced the next host for the 21st Global Summit which is The Philippines. The Tourism Secretary of The Philippines Ms. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat extended a warm welcoming and invitation to one and all in The Philippines at the end of this year.
Another great example for our industry that proves that Meetings and Events are possible and relevant for the economic recovery, in addition Events can be organized with all the global protocols and the safety measurements in place.
